In March 2025, Manchester United officially unveiled plans for a brand-new 100,000-seat stadium — set to become the largest football arena in the United Kingdom and the second largest in Europe. Designed by world-renowned architecture firm Foster + Partners, the “New Trafford Stadium” will be built adjacent to the current Old Trafford and is envisioned as the centerpiece of a major urban redevelopment project in the Trafford Park area.
With a futuristic umbrella-like roof that will harvest rainwater and generate renewable energy, the stadium will also feature a massive public square — twice the size of Trafalgar Square — as well as commercial spaces, fan zones, and a new pedestrian district filled with greenery and infrastructure improvements.
Construction is expected to take approximately five years. During that time, Manchester United will continue to play at Old Trafford. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new co-owner, called the project a catalyst for economic regeneration, projecting thousands of jobs and millions of visitors annually.
