Allegiant Stadium Overview: Location, Capacity & History

Allegiant Stadium is a world-class NFL stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the official home of the Las Vegas Raiders and UNLV Rebels football. Located just west of the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, the stadium officially opened in July 2020, boasting a price tag of $1.9 billion.

With a capacity of 65,000 seats, expandable to 72,000 for mega-events like the Super Bowl, this venue has become an architectural and urban symbol of modern Las Vegas.

Stadium Architecture: Designed by MANICA & HNTB

Allegiant Stadium was designed by MANICA Architecture in collaboration with HNTB, two of the leading firms in stadium design. The architecture features sleek black cladding, sharp edges, and a minimalist futuristic style — which earned it the nickname: “The Death Star”.

ETFE Roof and Retractable Grass Field Explained

A standout feature of the stadium is its translucent ETFE roof, allowing natural light while protecting fans from Nevada’s intense sun. Unlike traditional domes, the ETFE gives the stadium an open-air feel.

Another innovation is the retractable natural grass field — similar to Arizona’s State Farm Stadium — that slides outdoors to soak up sunlight and is rolled back in for game day.

What Events Are Held at Allegiant Stadium?

Beyond hosting NFL games, the stadium is a multipurpose venue for:
  • Super Bowl LVIII (2024)
  • WWE SummerSlam
  • International soccer matches
  • Concerts (Taylor Swift, BTS, U2 Residency)
  • College football & NCAA events
Its flexibility and location make it one of the top-performing entertainment venues in the U.S.

How Allegiant Stadium Impacts Las Vegas Urban Development

Allegiant Stadium is not just a sports venue — it’s an urban catalyst. The project spurred significant infrastructure upgrades, including pedestrian bridges, transit links, and new mixed-use developments.

It also:
  • Added thousands of jobs
  • Increased tourism outside the casino sector
  • Helped legitimize Las Vegas as a sports capital
