In early 2025, Real Zaragoza and the city council officially unveiled the design of a new state-of-the-art stadium that will replace the aging La Romareda. With a planned capacity of 43,184 seats, the new venue aims to redefine Zaragoza’s position in Spanish and European football, while also serving as a multi-purpose civic landmark.
The stadium will be built on the current site of La Romareda, in the university district of Zaragoza. The location maintains deep symbolic and historical significance for the city and the club — having hosted football since 1957.
Keeping the stadium in its original urban location was a key priority for both the municipality and fans, and the new project seeks to strengthen the integration between the stadium and the surrounding neighborhood.
The new stadium was designed by a consortium led by IDOM (Spain) and Rubau construction group. The architectural language combines transparency, lightness, and geometry — with a partially translucent exterior skin that references Zaragoza’s historical architecture and modernist tendencies.
